With multimodal microscopy, we combine different microscopy modalities to visualise the same sample. By imaging the same sample with different methods, we can retrieve structural, physical, and chemical information.
Biological sample preparation is usually tailored towards optimal conditions for a selected imaging modality. With multimodal approaches, it is crucial to consider a flexible specimen preparation to avoid any critical compromise. When electron microscopy is one of the methods of choice, we must prepare conductive and stable samples under the electron beam. Fixation, contrasting, sample topography and coating are going to be discussed during the presentation.
