Phase characterisation of an Igneous Rock and validation of the result using EBSD

The AutoPhaseMap module in the Oxford Instruments’ EDS software, AZtecEnergy, automatically finds areas of different characteristic composition from X-ray map data, and determines the distribution, area, constituent elements and composition of each of these areas or phases. The sample analysed in this application note was from an oceanic gabbro. AutoPhaseMap finds the main phases present in the sample and also provides some more detailed information where one of the minerals, pyrrhotite has reacted and broken down.

By downloading this application note you will see:

  • How this technique can be used to determine and characterise the phases present in an igneous rock
  • Validation of the results by comparing the EDS and EBSD datasets that were collected simultaneously

*Please note this application note refers to AZtecEnergy, this has since been upgraded to AZtecLive
