Case Study

Geoff West and his team at WMG oversee the analysis of hundreds of steel and related samples every year but found that their existing EBSD camera was generally slow and insensitive.

Geoff instead turned to our Symmetry S2, which uses a customised CMOS sensor and fibre optics to unlock a unique and powerful combination of speed, sensitivity, and diffraction pattern detail. Symmetry S2, in combination with our AZtec software, delivers exceptional performance on all materials and for all measurements.

Now Oxford Instruments is helping WMG work faster and with greater accuracy than ever before, as well as adding 3D functionality for even more detailed scans. “It’s faster so we can collect better data faster, particularly on challenging samples, such as diamond or light alloys. We get phenomenal patterns without even trying,” says Geoff. “And there is much less tinkering with the configurations to optimise the results. It is all round less effort for us.”
