Monitoring the Composition of NCM cathodes in Li-ion Batteries

Optimising and controlling the cathode material is one of the important areas for current Li-ion battery technology. This application note demonstrates an alternative method to determine the ratio of transition metals in each ternary cathode particle. The analysis of the NCM particles is performed using an Oxford Instruments Ultim Max 170 Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) equipped with dedicated automated particle analysis software (AZtecFeature).

By downloading this application note you will learn:

  • How automated particle analysis can be used in the Battery industry
  • How to measure chemical composition of NCM powder
  • How to prepare powder samples for quantitative analysis
